2018 Birding Del Norte County with Ken Burton

Birding Del Norte County with Ken Burton

   MK Whimbrels

                        Whimbrels by Marty Karlin

Instructor: Ken Burton
Dates: Saturday-Sunday, January 27-28, 2018
Location: Crescent City area; meet at the Crescent City
Cultural Center

Tuition: $110

Join us for a weekend exploring coastal Del Norte County, California,
an area that’s rich in bird diversity: this small county has a bird list
of over 420. We’ll spend one day sampling estuarine, riparian, and
agricultural habitats around the lower Smith River and the other focusing
on coastal lagoons, rocky shoreline, and harbor.  At this time of year,
almost anything’s possible and we could easily surpass 150 species.
Gull, raptor, sparrow, and waterfowl numbers and diversity will be at
their peaks. Whale sightings from the shoreline might also be possible.
The exact itinerary will remain flexible in response to conditions and
rare-bird reports.
