Wikipedia map
Instructor: Larry Basch, Ph.D.
Date: Saturday, June 16, 2018
Location: Meet at the Pistol River Friendship Hall, Curry County, OR
Tuition: $60 for one field course; $110 (1 Saturday field course + 1 Sunday field course, your choice.)
Explore the Pistol River area where Veva Stansell grew up, visit its estuary and nearby dunes. We'll become familiar with the land- and sea-scape of the river that originates in the Coast Range forest and runs for 21 miles to the Pacific. We'll see the impact of area logging and current efforts at restoring habitat that's home to chinook, coho, steelhead and coastal cutthroat trout. We'll also hear about other processes and human actions that have shaped this coastal ecoregion. Our observations will take place in a variety of field habitats.
Thanks to a donation from Linda Vorobik, scholarships are available to eligible Curry County residents through the Kalmiopsis Audubon Society, which Veva co-founded. Email programcoord@thesfi.org for more information.
