2019 Botanical Exploration of Mt. Eddy and Scott Mountain Fens

Trinity Buckwheat by LB
Instructor: Dana York, M.S.
Dates: Friday-Sunday, June 28-30, 2019
Location: Flowing Waters Retreat Center, Stewart Springs, CA
Tuition: $250 (includes 2 nights lodging)
Commuter tuition: $150

Experience Mt. Eddy’s unique plants and magnificent views as we botanize from the PCT trailhead to the summit. Tallest peak in the Klamath range, Mt. Eddy features high elevation serpentine habitat that’s a mecca for botany enthusiasts. Along the trail to its summit you’ll find many different plant communities: riparian, fen, rock gardens in both serpentinite and granitic substrates. Rare plants, including the Mt. Eddy sky pilot, carnivorous California pitcher plant, Mt. Eddy draba and foxtail pines, thrive here. You will have the option to stop at Deadfall Lakes and explore surrounding rock gardens and meadows instead of summiting. We’ll meet back in the parking lot and head to Flowing Waters for a group potluck. On Sunday, we’ll explore nearby fens in the Scott Mountains.

Flowing Waters Retreat Center in Stewart Springs will serve as our home base. Treat yourself to a full-fledged naturalist retreat by lodging in Namaste House, which boasts three bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, deck overlooking Parks Creek and a refreshing swimming hole. The house sleeps 13. including two double beds for couples. A two-night minimum stay is required to lodge here. Information can be found at www. shastaflowingwaters.com. Please call SFI at 541-597-8530 to reserve a bed or bedroom.
