In this course we’ll explore the basic geology of the Klamath Mountains, including their plate tectonic setting, nature of major terranes, history of terrane accretion, and key features exposed in the Orleans area. We’ll also learn to identify a number of common rock types found throughout the Klamath Mountains. During the field trip we will visit six sites in the Orleans-Salmon River area to study outcrops of the Western Klamath, Rattlesnake Creek, and Hayfork terranes.
