Medical research has revealed beneficial immunity-boosting effects of forest walking, including inhalation of mycobacterium from the soil and phytoncides from tree compounds. If you’re grieving, trying to steer your life in a creative new direction or dealing with stress in work or home life, forest therapy may help you cope. In this half-day retreat, we’ll explore the natural history of humans in their relationship to nature as we explore the SFI forest.
Our guided walk will be based on the practice of Shinrin-Yoku, roughly translated as “forest bathing.” Originating in Japan in 2004, forest bathing involves meditational walking. The goal is to engage all five senses in the present moment while experiencing the forest’s beauty.
